Deb Jacobs photoAbout Me

What began for me in 2004 as an extension of a hobby has blossomed into an art studio career. Before the birth of my third child I found that I was yearning for greater flexibility and creativity than I was finding in my professional position. My husband and I made the leap to transform our lives. He began designing the cottage he would construct for my studio, and I began researching machines and the business of quilting, spurred on by a local quilt shop owner and one of her staff members who were certain that the market was ripe for a new addition to the field.

I now have a thriving business transforming customer’s quilt tops into heirloom quilts for their pleasure use, and a budding business in commissioning art quilts for public and private collections. My quilts have won numerous awards including 1st Place, Best in Class and Best in Show at local and regional fairs. At the 2007 state fair my customers won second place, third place and a number of honorable mention awards. In October, a customer won the Quilt Man’s Asian challenge with original designs I had designed and quilted for her piece.

On April 18, 2007 a quilt I collaborated on with Joyce Hartley of Quilting Adventures was sold to benefit the American Cancer Society at the “Cure by Design” benefit auction for $10,000. It was purchased by Bon Secours Health System executives and is slated to hang in the state of the art cancer treatment facility at the St. Francis Cancer Institute in Richmond, Virginia.

My goal is to continue to treat each project as a work of art, whether it is from a local piecer making a special gift for her grandchild, a new piecer finishing her first quilt, or a commissioned piece for a corporate or private collection.

I want to thank everyone who has encouraged me to develop my art and share the dream. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
